DALLAS (FWAA) – The USC Trojans unseated Oklahoma in the FWAA's final regular-season Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll. The Sooners, the FWAA's preseason No. 1 and the top-ranked team in each regular-season poll, dropped to No. 3 after their 35-7 loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 championship game.

OU had received every first-place vote in the regular season prior to the final week.

USC won its season finale, 52-28, over Oregon State and LSU won the SEC title, 34-13, over Georgia to move up to No. 2. The Trojans received nine of the 16 first-place votes while LSU earned five and OU kept one. With Georgia's loss, each team ranked 6-9 moved up a spot. Georgia had been ranked fifth. Michigan remained No. 4 with its regular season complete.

Kansas State, which received two first-place votes in the preseason poll, vaulted to No. 9. The Wildcats earned a spot in the BCS with their upset of Oklahoma. It was K-State's seventh straight win.

The SEC, led by LSU, has five schools in the Super 16. The Big Ten sports four and the Big 12 has three.

The FWAA/Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll, which has made its debut last season, will decide the winner of the Grantland Rice Trophy, the FWAA's national championship award presented since 1954. The presentation will be made on Mon., Jan. 5 in New Orleans following the Nokia Sugar Bowl.
