NCBWA RELEASES 2002-03 OFFICERS
Carolla Hurd Montoro Lamb Carter Anderson

CHICAGO (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has released its list of 2002-03 officers today. These officers begin their duties immediately and will serve in these roles through the 2003 College World Series.

Rob Carolla, Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference, will serve as the organization’s President during the upcoming year. Rob has served as an officer in the NCBWA for the past two years and has promoted Big East Baseball since 1997.

Jeff Hurd, Senior Associate Commissioner of the Western Athletic Conference and a two-year officer in the NCBWA, has been promoted to First Vice-President and is slated to serve as Carolla’s successor.

The two new additions to the NCBWA officer list are certainly not strangers to the college baseball scene. Southern Miss Sports Information Director Mike Montoro has joined the organization and will serve as the Second Vice-President this season. Meanwhile, Ohio State Assistant Sports Information Director Todd Lamb will be the new Third Vice-President. Montoro has been an active promoter of college baseball during stints at Liberty, West Virginia and Virginia Tech prior to his arrival at USM in the fall of 2000. Lamb is in his first year in Columbus, but worked around prominent college baseball programs at Clemson and Rice prior to joining the Buckeyes' staff.

Two familiar faces to the NCBWA scene will also remain in active roles during the upcoming campaign, as Big 12 Conference Assistant Commissioner Bo Carter, who has served in virtually every capacity the NCBWA offers, will begin his fourth year as the NCBWA’s Executive Director. Russell Anderson, Director of Media Relations at Conference USA and 2000-01 NCBWA President, begins his seventh year as the organization’s Secretary/Treasurer.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-American awards, publication and writing contests. Additionally, the organization has launched a website at www.ncbwa.com. To join, send annual dues ($15.00) to Russell Anderson, NCBWA Treasurer, c/o Conference USA, 35 East Wacker Drive, Suite 650, Chicago, IL 60601.
