DALLAS (NCBWA) – Eastern Connecticut State University outfielder Jim Schult (Sr., Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) has been named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division III Position Player of the Year, while Marietta College's Brian Gasser (Jr., New Philadelphia, Ohio/Indian Valley) earned that organization's NCAA Division III Pitcher of the Year honors.

Schult was named the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Player of the Year and first-team All-Little East Conference with a .392 batting average, 56 runs scored, 19 doubles, five triples, 11 home runs, 64 RBI, a .711 slugging percentage, a .478 on-base percentage and 20-of-21 stolen bases. He received two first-place votes and four second-place votes from a panel of sports information directors.

Gasser, who received five first-place votes and three second-place votes, was named D3baseball.com Pitcher of the Year and the Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year with a 13-0 record, a 1.09 earned run average, 2.51 walks per nine innings, 8.62 strikeouts per nine innings and a .157 opponent-batting average.
