Defending champion Kean picked third

PRESEASON NCBWA DIVISION III POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA polls with the inaugural NCBWA/D3baseball.com Division III Preseason Poll. Weekly polls will start on February 25 and continue through June 2, following the NCAA Division III Championship in Grand Chute, Wis.

The poll voters come from 25 college baseball writers, sports information directors and related media persons from throughout the nation.

Cortland State has received the No. 1 preseason nod in the inaugural poll. Cortland State returns an experienced pitching staff headed by George Jweid and a potent offense anchored by preseason All-American catcher Mike Zaccardo. Kean is the defending NCAA Division III champion and is No. 3 in the pre-2008 NCBWA survey.

This week's poll has representation by 18 different conferences from the 2008 NCAA Division III ranks.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Trophy, Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors the Pro-Line Cap Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the Year, and publication and writing contests.
