OMAHA, Neb. (NCBWA) – After finishing its historic postseason
run with a 6-1 victory over Georgia on Wednesday night to win the
College World Series, Fresno State finishes the 2008 season
ranked No. 1 in the final National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association Top 30 Poll.
The NCBWA continued its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for
the 11th year with its 2008 weekly surveys. Weekly polls have been
circulated from Feb. 25-June 26 following the NCAA World Series
in Omaha, Neb.
The poll voters come from 30 college baseball writers and related
media persons from throughout the nation. The final poll has representation
by 12 different conferences among the 297 baseball-playing schools
in the 2008 NCAA Division I ranks, and 17 total leagues had at least
one team in the '08 national surveys.
The first 2009 NCBWA Division I poll will be released in January
2009.
