DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association continued its tradition of NCAA Division I polls
for the 11th year with its 2009 weekly surveys. This season's polls
have been circulated from Feb. 23-June 25 following the NCAA World
Series in Omaha, Neb. This is the final poll of the year and '09
after LSU won its sixth NCAA baseball championship on June 24.
The poll voters come from 30 college baseball writers and related
media persons from throughout the nation. The final poll has representation
by 11 different conferences among the 302 baseball-playing schools
in the 2009 NCAA Division I ranks, and five different schools have
held down the No. 1 position.
There have been 21 separate leagues among the Top 30 in the '09
poll, and five different schools – North Carolina, LSU, Georgia,
Arizona State, and UC Irvine – held down the No. 1 position in the
NCBWA polls.
The first 2010 NCBWA Division I poll will be released in January
2010.
