DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association continued its tradition of NCAA Division I polls
for the 11th year with its 2010 weekly surveys. This season's polls
have been circulated from Feb. 23 to June 29/30, following the NCAA
World Series in Omaha, Neb. This is the final poll of the year after
South Carolina of the Southeastern Conference won its first NCAA
baseball championship on June 29 by downing UCLA, 2-1 in 11 innings.
The poll voters come from 40 college baseball writers and related
media persons from throughout the nation. The final poll has representation
by 10 different conferences among the 302 baseball-playing schools
in the 2009 NCAA Division I ranks, and five different schools have
held down the No. 1 position. There have been 16 separate leagues
among the Top 30 in the 2010 polls, and four different schools –
(chronologically) Texas, LSU, Virginia, and Arizona State – held
down the No. 1 position in the NCBWA 2010 polls.
The first 2011 NCBWA Division I poll will be released in Jan.
2011.
