NCBWA NAMES DIVISION II
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its weekly NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards of the season for the period ending March 10. Grand Valley State junior first baseman Gioncarlo Brugnoni is the National Hitter of the Week while University of Mary junior righthander Shane Trattles is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Gioncarlo Brugnoni (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) had a stellar first week of competition, hitting .519 (14-for-27) with 11 runs, four doubles, a triple, four home runs and 16 RBI. Brugnoni recorded a .567 on-base percentage and an incredible 1.185 slugging percentage in the team's first eight games of the season. Brugnoni, who had five multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games, recorded and extra-base hit in 7-of-8 games played. GVSU went 4-4, seeing its first action outside. This was his second National Player of the Week award. Brugnoni was named National Hitter of the Week April 18th of last season.

Shane Trattles (Sauk Center, Minn.) pitched just the third no-hitter in University of Mary baseball history and came within an out of a perfect game in a 2-0 win over Penn State Beaver. The junior from Sauk Center, Minn., retired the first 20 hitters he faced and didn’t allow a baserunner until two outs in the seventh inning when the Marauders infield committed an error. Trattles finished with eight strikeouts in the seven inning complete game while allowing no hits or walks. This is the first national honor for the University of Mary.
