DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its weekly NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the period ending Feb. 9. UNC Pembroke third baseman Jordan Edgerton is the National Hitter of the Week while Francis Marion sophomore lefty Daniel Barfield is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Jordan Edgerton (Mount Holly, N.C.) Edgerton hit .615 with a 1.308 slugging percentage in UNCP's three-game sweep of Pitt-Johnstown. The All-American went 8-for-13 in the series, collecting hits in all three games, with two homers, three doubles and 10 RBIs. He went 5-for-5 in Monday's series finale, belting two home runs and driving in seven. He also drew two walks for a .688 on-base percentage with one stolen base and did not strike out in 15 plate appearances. The junior also had a .938 fielding percentage at third base with one error in 16 total chances. Edgerton is tied for the PBC lead with 13 RBIs, six doubles and is third in the league in home runs.

Daniel Barfield (Fort Mill, S.C.) Barfield threw the 20th no-hitter in PBC history as he blanked St. Rose 12-0 in a seven-inning game. Making only his third-career start, the sophomore struck out a career-high 10 batters while issuing five walks with only 108 pitches thrown. Barfield is now 2-0 on the season and has not allowed an earned run in 12 innings pitched.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
