DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball
Writers Association released its National Player
of the Week awards for the period ending April 23.
Florida State junior infielder Dylan Busby was
named National Hitter of the Week, while
Florida junior right-handed pitcher Alex Faedo
was named National Pitcher of the Week. The
NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference
each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
Busby became the first Seminole with three or more RBIs in
five straight games, leading Florida State to a series win over
No. 4 Clemson and a split with rival Miami. On Monday against
the Tigers, the Sarasota, Fla., natives three-run double gave
FSU its first lead. Against Stetson on Wednesday, he went
3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. At the Hurricanes on
Friday, Busby was 3-for-5 with a 3-run home run and an RBI
double in the ninth. His average has jumped to .305, 35 points
higher than when the Clemson series started April 15. The junior
third baseman was 8-for-18 in the five games during the week,
with 10 runs driven in, two doubles, and three home runs.
Faedo pitched 8-2/3 scoreless innings in a win against No. 18
South Carolina last Thursday. The Tampa native tied his
career-long outing against the Gamecocks and allowed just three
hits in the Gators 1-0 win in the series opener. Florida has
four 1-0 wins this season with three of them coming in starts by
Faedo. He struck out nine and only allowed one runner to reach
third base in his latest outing.
