NCBWA NAMES DIVISION III
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – Member institutions of the Capital Athletic Conference, American Southwest Conference, and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference earned the first NCAA Div. III weekly accolades awarded by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in 2019. This week’s honorees were recognized for performances spanning Feb. 18-24.

Hitter of the Week: Sophomore outfielder Tre D’Amico went 7-for-10 at the dish in three Frostburg State University wins over the weekend. In a sweep over the College of New Rochelle on Sunday, D’Amico tallied six hits, six runs, three doubles, eight RBI, and hit a home run in each game

Honorable Mention Hitter: Antony Mantova, Jr., OF, St. John Fisher – Had a day as the No. 21 Cardinals defeated Johns Hopkins University on the road, 19-13. Mantova went 4-for-5 at the dish with two home runs and seven RBI, four of which came on his eighth-inning grand slam. The Albany native scored three runs in the win and had one walk.

Pitcher of the Week: Junior Keith Long tossed the 19th no-hitter in the history of the American Southwest Conference on Sunday. Long allowed just one walk while striking out 11 over seven innings to lead The University of Texas at Tyler to a 3-0 win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Honorable Mention Pitcher: Ryan Boyer, Sr., Pitt.-Bradford – Was purely dominant in his opening day start, coming one out away from a perfect game Saturday. Boyer struck out 16 batters in a complete game and didn’t walk anyone. The lone hit against Boyer was a home run, serving as his only surrendered run. The 16 strikeouts are the most in a single game for the program since 2005.

Rookie of the Week: Alfred State College right-hander Andrew Santobuono turned in a stellar collegiate debut with 10 strikeouts in eight shutout innings. Santobuono allowed four hits against Houghton College and didn’t walk anyone.
