VANDERBILT TOPS NCBWA DIVISION I POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 22nd year with its 2019 weekly surveys and the preseason favorite Vanderbilt takes over at the No. 1 spot this week, followed by two Pac-12 clubs in Oregon State at No. 2 and UCLA at No. 3.

The Commodores took over the top spot after a sweep of Dayton this past weekend. Oregon State jumped up one to No. 2 after winning a weekend series over West Virginia and UCLA took over at No. 3 after a 3-1 week.

North Carolina moved up one to No. 4 and the newcomer to the top five is Stanford, who moved up five spots from No. 10 last week.

Joining the top 10 this week is Mississippi State, who jumped up to No 7 after a 3-0 week, including a 2-0 weekend at the Frisco Classic, including a win over then-No. 6 Texas Tech.

Overall, the top 10 consists of five SEC schools, three Pac-12 programs and two ACC schools.

The biggest risers this week were NC State and Texas. NC State jumped up nine spots to No. 20 after going 4-0 this week to remain undefeated and Texas rose to No. 12 from No. 20 after a sweep of then-No. 1 LSU.

The 2019 poll voters come from among 35 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. After a preseason Top 40 listing, the remainder of the polls feature a national Top 30.

This week's current survey has representation by eight different conferences among the 299 baseball-playing schools in the 2019 NCAA Division I ranks. The rankings of 2018 had 15 different DI conferences rated at least one week. For more information or to join the NCBWA, please go to ncbwa.com.
