DALLAS (NCBWA) – Another week of results on
the college baseball diamond threw a heaping helping of parity to
the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division
II Top 25 on Wednesday, but Angelo State edged out Central Missouri
by three points in the final tally to maintain their perch atop
the national ranking.
Three teams – Angelo State, Central Missouri, and UC San Diego
– all raked in first place votes this week. The Rams, who took over
the top spot in the first regular season edition of the poll on
February 19, split a four-game Lone Star Conference series at St.
Edward’s, while Central Missouri stretched its win streak out to
a dozen games with a three-game sweep of Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletic Association foe Rogers Stats. UC San Diego tacked up 54
combined runs in a four-game sweep of Cal State San Marcos to thrust
itself into the conversation for the No. 1 spot.
Two new teams made their season debut in the NCBWA Top 25 on
Wednesday. Columbus State is in the national ranking for the first
time since March 26, 2019, while Chico State is among the nation’s
top 25 teams for the first time since the 2018 preseason ranking.
Lindenwood, who made its program debut in the top 25 three weeks
ago, inched into the top 10 this week. Dixie State is among the
nation’s top 10 teams for the first time since March 1, 2016 (Week
3), while Barry is in the top 10 for the first time since occupying
the No. 2 position in the 2012 preseason poll.
