NCBWA NAMES DIVISION I NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 1, today. Memphis sophomore catcher Hunter Goodman was named National Hitter of the Week, while Oklahoma junior right-handed pitcher Dane Acker was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Throughout the Tigers' 4-0 week, Goodman posted 24 RBI. In the Tigers' three-game series against Western Illinois, Goodman produced 22 RBI behind four home runs – three of which were grand slams on each day. He also produced two doubles, scored seven runs and also stole a base. On Sunday, March 1, the Arlington, Texas native set a Memphis and American Athletic Conference single-game record with 11 RBI. The 11 RBI vs. the Leathernecks are also the most in a Division I game this season.

Acker won a 1-0 pitcher's duel over No. 14 LSU in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic on March 1. He struck out a season-high 11 batters, walked just one and allowed only four baserunners. Acker’s feat was OU's first individual nine-inning no-hitter since Jim Huslig against Old Dominion in 1989. The Brenham, Texas, product maintained the effort throughout seven innings of no-hit ball on both sides, dueling with LSU's AJ Labas, until the Sooners went ahead 1-0 on catcher Justin Mitchell's solo home run in the top of the eighth inning.

The accomplishment was the 11th individual no-hitter in Big 12 history and first since 2017, and the first time the LSU program has been no-hit in a nine-inning game in recorded history. Acker's effort was also OU's first complete game since 2015 (Alec Hansen vs. Texas Tech) and first complete-game shutout since 2013 (Jonathan Gray vs. Northwestern State).
