SELF, HANDY ARE NCBWA
DIVISION II NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on March 13. Oklahoma Baptist junior outfielder Kade Self is the National Hitter of the Week and Colorado Mesa sophomore lefty Kannon Handy is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Self (Shawnee, Okla./Cowley College) found great success against East Central as he went 9-for-17 with four home runs and 16 RBI. He entered the series with the Tigers with eight RBI on the year. In game one, he opened the scoring with a home run and won the game with a home run in the top of the ninth. He hit a grand slam and a three-run home run in game two. He doubled and tripled in the finale.

Handy (Herriman, Utah/Jordan HS) was unhittable in the series finale against Colorado School of Mines on Monday, and that is no hyperbole. Handy tossed the eighth no-hitter in Colorado Mesa program history, allowing just one walk in the game's final inning. It took him just 91 pitches to do so and he struck out six batters along the way.
