DALLAS (NCBWA) The no-hitters keep coming in NCAA
Div. III, this time with a pitcher in the City University of New
York Athletic Conference firing one. A four-home run week and a
10-for-18 showing rounded out this weeks National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association Div. III honors. The sixth
selections in 2022 were chosen based on games March 28-April 3.
HITTER OF THE WEEK Eastern Connecticut
State University senior third baseman Luke Broadhurst was named
Little East Conference Player of the Week after batting .700
(7-for-10) and slugging 1.900 in a 3-0 week for the third-ranked
Warriors. Broadhurst had four homers, 10 RBI, and eight runs
scored over the week. He opened the week going 3-for-4 with one
home run, three RBI, and three runs scored in a 13-1
non-conference win over Wheaton College (Massachusetts). The
senior then went a combined 4-for-6 with three dingers, three
walks, seven RBI, and five runs scored as Eastern Connecticut
State notched 11-5 and 14-1 conference victories over Plymouth
State University (New Hampshire) on Saturday.
Honorable Mention Hitter: Jacob Charon Sr.,
OF, Lawrence University (Wisconsin) Midwest Conference
Position Performer of the Week after smacking four homers in
Lawrences doubleheader sweep of Grinnell College (Iowa) on
Saturday. Went 6-for-10 with nine RBI and six runs scored in the
three-game series with the Pioneers. In the opener, he went
2-for-3, drove in four runs, and scored three times. Charon hit
a two-run homer in the fifth and followed that with a two-run
homer in the sixth, as the Vikings won 11-0. In the second game,
Charon went 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored in a
14-10 victory. He hit a three-run homer in the first inning and
blasted a two-run homer in the ninth. Charon now has nine home
runs on the season and that ties the Lawrence season record just
13 games into the campaign.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK John Jay College's
(New York) sophomore Ismael Tatis fired last weeks no-hitter in
NCAA Div. III. The CUNY Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week
went seven innings, did not allow a run, and struck out four to
lower his season ERA to 3.60. Tatis and the Bloodhounds beat
University of Valley Forge (Pennsylvania) 11-0. Tatis needed
just 86 pitches and he faced two over the minimum in the no-no.
Honorable Mention Pitcher: Danny Thompson,
So., North Carolina Wesleyan College USA South Athletic
Conference Pitcher of the Week after setting a modern-day
program record with 17 strikeouts in a complete-game, 11-inning,
5-3 victory over USA South foe Averett University (Virginia).
Thompson allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits while
throwing 140 pitches.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Westfield State
University (Massachusetts) outfielder Samuel Palmer batted .556
(10-for-18) with two doubles, a triple, home run, seven RBI,
five runs scored, a stolen base, and a .944 slugging percentage
in a 3-1 week for the Owls. The Massachusetts State Collegiate
Athletic Conference Player and Rookie of the Week belted a home
run and a double in a 6-5 setback against Coast Guard Academy
(Connecticut). He went 6-for-9 with a double, triple, five RBI,
and two runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Fitchburg State
University (Massachusetts) on Saturday. That followed up a hit
and run scored in a 4-2 win over Fitchburg State on Friday.

college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and
publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory,
newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Player
of the Year Award, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America
voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication
and writing contests.
