Senior cornerback helps Horns stifle Oklahoma
TEXAS' ROSS IS NAGURSKI NATIONAL
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (FWAA) – Texas cornerback Aaron Ross has been named the FWAA/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week for games the week of Oct. 7..

The Bronko Nagurski TrophyRoss, a senior from Tyler, Texas, tied a school record for takeaways in a game (three, two interceptions and a fumble recovery) in the Longhorns' convincing 28-10 victory over longtime rival Oklahoma. His three takeaways in the fourth quarter are the most ever in one quarter by a Texas player.

Ross' 3-yard, fourth-quarter return of an Oklahoma lateral provided Texas' final margin of victory. Ross also had eight tackles (five unassisted) and helped hold OU receiver Malcolm Kelly, 10th nationally with 94.8 receiving yards per game coming into the contest, to just 31 yards on two catches.

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy will be presented to the best defensive player in college football on Dec. 4 by the FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte, N.C.

Last season Louisville end Elvis Dumervil won the coveted Bronko Nagurski Trophy during the 11th season the FWAA has named a Defensive Player of the Year.

The Football Writers Association of America, a non-profit organization founded in 1941, consists of more than 900 men and women across North America who cover college football for a living. The membership includes journalists, broadcasters and publicists, as well as key executives in all the areas that involve the game. The FWAA works to govern areas that include game day operations, major awards, a national poll and its annual All-America team.
