DALLAS (FWAA) – With their 38-7 win at No. 16 BYU, the
TCU Horned Frogs (7-0) are the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National
Team of the Week for games of the weekend of Oct. 24, as chosen
by the board of the Football Writers Association of America.
Andy
Dalton threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns as TCU raced to
a 21-0 lead and the Horned Frog defense registered five sacks as
TCU won its ninth straight game.
The win vaulted TCU to No. 6 in the BCS rankings and improved
the Frogs to a remarkable 58-1 under coach Gary Patterson when allowing
17 or fewer points.
"I don't think anyone would have predicted this," Patterson said
after the game. "And that's why I told the players to enjoy the
moment."
Other Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Bowl National Team of the Week nominees
for the weekend of Oct. 24 included:
• Clemson (4-3): Kyle Parker threw a 26-yard touchdown
pass to Jacoby Ford in overtime as the Tigers stunned Miami,
40-37.
• Iowa State (5-3): The Cyclones forced eight Nebraska
turnovers defeating the Huskers, 9-7, for their first win in
Lincoln since 1977.
The FWAA has named a national team of the week since the 2002
season. This is the sixth season that the award has been sponsored
by the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
Members of the FWAA board of directors and All-America committee
decide the weekly honor. Each Monday during the 2009 college football
season, the FWAA will name the Tostitos Bowl National Team of the
Week through Dec. 7.
Since 1971, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl has hosted six games
that have decided the college football national championship, including
three Bowl Championship Series title games. This season the Tostitos
Fiesta Bowl game will be played on Jan. 4, 2010 at University of
Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., and the Insight Bowl will be
played on Dec. 31, 2009 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
