NCBWA NAMES DIVISION III
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

ATLANTA (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period ending May 2.

Mike Cohan of DeSales University (Pa.) was named National Hitter of the Week, while Julius Jenkins of The College of New Jersey was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA reviews candidates from Division III conferences each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Cohan batted .522 with 12 hits, nine runs scored, six home runs and 23 RBIs in six games. For the week, he amassed 32 total bases and a 1.391 slugging percentage. Cohan belted four home runs and picked up 14 RBIs in a win against Scranton (Pa.). The latter set an NCAA Division III record while the former tied the national record. The senior outfielder also was named Hitter of the Week by the Freedom Conference.

Jenkins picked up a win and save in two relief appearances. In 8 1/3 innings combined, he yielded one hit, no runs, no walks and struck out six. He picked up his third save of the season with 1 2/3 innings of relief, allowing no hits with two strikeouts, to preserve a 4-3 win against Richard Stockton (N.J.). Jenkins then earned a victory by pitching 6 2/3 innings of one-hit shutout work while striking out four in a 13-inning, 4-3 win against William Paterson (N.J.), ranked 24th in the nation. He also was named Pitcher of the Week by the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
