DALLAS (NCBWA) For the second time this season, NCAA
Division III National Hitter of the Week honors are shared, this
time between Brad Gugliotta of Baldwin Wallace
University and Daniel Paccione of Farmingdale
State College (SUNY), while Trevor Lubking of
Pacific Lutheran University takes home the sixth Pitcher of the
Week award for April 1-7, 2013, as voted on by a panel of D-III
members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Gugliotta, a junior third baseman from Twinsburg, Ohio,
helped the Yellow Jackets to a 4-1 record, including a win at
D-I Dayton. On the week, he batted .667 (12-of-18) with eight
runs and 11 runs batted in. He had a double and a triple for a
.833 slugging percentage, and stole three bases. He also drew
five walks for a .739 on base percentage. He began the week
going 6-for-7 with three runs and five RBI in split with John
Carroll, then was 2-for-5 with two RBI in an 8-6 win at Dayton.
He finished with a 4-for-6 day with four runs and four RBI in a
twinbill sweep at Mount Union. Gugliotta was the Ohio Athletic
Conference Player of the Week.
Paccione, a junior infielder from Commack, N.Y., batted .778
(7-for-9), including three multi-hit games, with seven runs
scored and seven runs batted in, in a 4-0 week for the Rams. He
slugged two home runs, two triples, and a double for a 2.000
slugging percentage, and drew a walk for a .800 on base
percentage. In a 10-1 win over Mount St. Mary on Aug. 6, he was
2-for-2 with two triples and three runs scored. In a 16-9, 10-6
doubleheader sweep at Maritime the next day, he was 5-for-7 with
a home run in each game, driving in three in the opener and four
in the nightcap. Paccione was named the Skyline Conference
Co-Player of the Week.
Lubking, a sophomore from Buckley, Wash., went 3-0 for the
Lutes, throwing 15 innings and allowing one run for a 0.60
earned run average and eight hits while striking out 19. In a
non-conference twinbill at Saint Martin's on Monday, he was the
winning pitcher in both games - one inning of no-hit,
two-strikeout relief in the 12-inning opener, and five innings
of no-run, two-hit ball to start and win the second game,
striking out eight. He closed against league leader and No.
2-ranked Linfield on Sunday, going all nine innings to beat the
Wildcats 3-1. He scattered six hits and struck out nine. Lubking
was the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week.
