DALLAS (NCBWA) – Record-setting Brian Mauro
of DeSales University and closer Alex DiSanto
of the State University of New York-College at Old Westbury have
been named the ninth and next-to-last 2013 NCAA Division III
National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for April 22-28 as voted
on by a panel of D-III members of the National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association.
Mauro, a senior first baseman from Merrick, N.Y., was
outstanding in leading the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record, batting
.733 (11-for-15) with four doubles, two home runs, eight runs
scored, 10 RBIs, a .778 on base pct., and a 1.400 slugging pct.
He had four multi-hit games, starting with a 2-for-4 with two
RBIs vs. Scranton. In the first of a three-game set with King’s,
he was 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and three runs
scored. In a twinbill on Saturday, he was 6-for-7 with three
doubles, five runs scored and four RBIs. In the process, he
broke the single-season record for doubles in a season at
DeSales, recording his 24th of the year. Mauro is now hitting
.500 with five home runs, 51 RBIs, and 24 doubles to lead the
Bulldogs in those categories.
DiSanto, a junior right-hander from New Hyde Park, N.Y, was a
perfect 4-for-4 in save opportunities as he tossed six scoreless
innings while allowing just two hits and fanning nine. He began
the week with three innings of one-hit relief, striking out
five, in a 10-0 win over CCNY, then threw one inning with two
strikeouts to preserve a 5-2 win over Lehman. He notched a pair
of saves on Apr. 27 in the Panthers’ 4-1 and 3-2 victories over
SUNY-Purchase, fanning two in the last inning of the opener, as
Old Westbury secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Skyline
Conference championship. He has tied the program’s single-season
record with 12 saves. DiSanto was the Skyline Pitcher of the
