DALLAS (NCBWA) – Cornell College's Walker Breard
and the College of Mount Saint Vincent's Tyler Krolikowski
headlined another impressive week of statistical outputs around
NCAA Division III action and were named National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association Hitter and Pitcher of the Week
for the span of April 6-12.
Breard, a freshman first baseman from Washington, Iowa, had a
meteoric effort at the plate for the Rams. He batted .714 (10-of-14)
with a whopping 1.786 slugging percentage in a four-game split at
Illinois College. In only three games, the first-year player totaled
three doubles, four home runs, seven runs and 10 RBIs. The Midwest
Conference Hitter of the Week had a sizzling stretch of nine at-bats,
during the span, in which he slugged four homers, two doubles and
one single with eight RBIs.
Krolikowski, a junior right-handed starting pitcher from Massapequa,
N.Y., added to the historical annals for the Dolphins. The Skyline
Conference Pitcher of the Week tossed the second no-hitter for the
program on Apr. 11 in a 3-0 win at Maritime, fanning 14 and walking
just one in the seven-inning gem. The junior didn't stop there,
either, as he struck out five in three innings of scoreless relief
to earn the win on Apr. 7 in a 10-5 victory over NYU.
Honorable Mention Hitter: Hunter Handel, Jr.,
DH, Baldwin-Wallace: Blasted five home runs in four games and led
the No.16-ranked Yellow Jackets to a 3-1 record. At the plate, Handel
was 8-for-16 for a .500 batting average with five runs scored, five
homers and 11 runs batted-in as BW split with Otterbein and swept
Wilmington. He had a 1.438 slugging average and a .579 on-base average.
Honorable Mention Pitchers: Sam Miller, Jr.,
RHP, Brandeis: Tossed two complete-game victories for the Judges,
including a three-hit, nine-inning complete game in a 7-2 victory
over Worcester State College on Tuesday that gave head coach Pete
Varney his 700th career win. He struck out six in that outing and
returned April 12 to throw a six-hitter over seven innings with
four strikeouts in a 7-2 Judges' victory over Plymouth State University.
For the week, Miller limited opponents to a .155 batting average
… Christian Neal, Jr., RHP, William Peace: Earned a complete-game
shutout victory in a 3-0 win over USA South foe Piedmont in his
only appearance on the mound last week for the Pacers. Neal allowed
just four hits with one walk and established a program-record with
17 strikeouts. The 17 punch-outs are the highest amount of strikeouts
thrown in a single game this season in all of NCAA Division III.
