NCBWA NAMES DIVISION III
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – Institutions from the Capital Athletic Conference, the American Southwest Conference and the New Jersey Athletic Conference gained National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division III accolades for games played March 5-11.

Hitter of the Week: Concordia junior infielder Carson Cox played a vital role for the Tornados as they swept past ASC foe East Texas Baptist March 9 and 10. In a seven-inning 6-3 win, the Cotulla, Tex., native went 4-4 with two home runs and four RBI to win game one. In the second game, a 12-4 win, Cox would go deep once again a part of a three-hit game, while also driving in four runs. In a 19-9 finale win, Cox would once again push in four Tornados with another three-hit day. For the weekend, he tallied a .625 batting average and 1.375 slugging percentage due to producing three doubles and home runs apiece that drove in 12 runs.

Honorable Mention Hitter: Seth Woodward, Jr., 3B, Christopher Newport: Reached based in 11 of his 13 plate appearances as he helped the Captains post a 3-0 record in Myrtle Beach while outscoring their opponents 34-11. Woodard notched at least three hits in each contest as CNU defeated Bridgewater (Va.), Hampden-Sydney and Penn State Berks. For the week, he went 10-for-12 (.833) at the plate with five runs scored, five RBIs, three doubles, a .846 on-base percentage and a 1.083 slugging percentage. In CNU's closest game of the week, he went 4-for-4 with a walk against Hampden-Sydney in the 6-5 victory.

Pitcher of the Week: Frostburg State senior Greg Schneider wasn’t far off NCAA Division III’s second 2018 no-hitter in a 5-0 victory over Stevenson March 5. The Jefferson Hills, Pa., native registered a one-hit, 15-strikeout complete-game effort with the only home team hit occurring in the ninth inning after retiring 25 consecutive Mustang batters. He also walked just one batter in his 9.0 innings of work.

Honorable Mention Pitcher: Derek Jackson, Jr., William Peace: Threw a no-hitter through nine innings, gave up two hits in the 10th inning in the first game of the series against Ferrum College where WPU won 1-0 as part of a weekend USA South sweep. Tallied ten strikeouts in the shutout.

Rookie of the Week: Hailing from Hackettstown, N.J., infielder Justin Provost turned heads for Rowan during the RussMatt Invitational in the Sunshine State last week. He went 6-for-12 with nine RBI, three runs scored, and two doubles. All three games were multi-hit and multi-RBI games. He went 2-for-4 with three RBI against Salve Regina. The following day he went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI in the win over Ripon. He wrapped up the week with a 2-for-4 outing with a double and two RBI, also taking a hit by pitch, in the win over No. 1 UMass-Boston.
