DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA
Division II National Players of the Week awards for the
week ending on March 10. Florida Southern sophomore first baseman
Jacob Teter is the National Hitter of the
Week, while Chico State junior lefty Grant Larson
is the National Pitcher of the Week.
Teter (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie HS) earned Sunshine State Conference
Player of the Week after leading Florida Southern offensively to
a 5-1 week, including series wins over Felician University and Claflin
University. The sophomore was 13-for-22 from the plate with 17 runs
batted in, nine runs scored, five home runs, and five walks. The
Melbourne native's top game of the week came in the finale against
Felician where he went 4-for-4 with 10 RBI and two home runs. The
first baseman slashed .591/.667/1.273, tallied 28 total bases, and
reached base safely in all six games on the week.
Larson (San Diego, Calif./High Tech HS) made Chico State baseball
history Monday, with a complete-game, one-hit shutout in a 5-0 win
over Cal State Monterey Bay. The lefty retired 10-straight to start
the gamefive via strikeout. After issuing his lone walk of the
day, followed by the Otters' lone hit, Larson down the next 17 Otters
hitters to close it out, striking out a career-high 10 batters in
nine innings of work.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of
college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and
publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory,
newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player
of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting.
The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication
and writing contests.
