DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on March 2, 2020. Alabama Huntsville senior infielder John Trousdale is the National Hitter of the Week and UT Tyler senior righty Austin Schneider is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Trousdale (Rogersville, Ala./Alabama) helped the Chargers win all five of their games this week, including a three-game conference sweep over West Alabama. Trousdale hit three of his four homers in the UWA series, including a three-run HR and a grand slam in the final game. His eight RBIs in the series finale is tied for second most in a single game in program history.

Schneider (Azle, Texas/Keller Central HS) broke the UT Tyler single-game strikeouts record with 17 Ks in a complete-game, two-hit shutout victory over Cameron in Lone Star Conference action. Schneider recorded at least one strikeout in all nine innings, and he had two or more strikeouts in seven of the nine frames. After UT Tyler gave him a 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, Schneider struck out the side on 16 pitches in the top of the eighth to tie the program mark of 15 strikeouts, set in 2008 by Brett Holland.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
