DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on March 9, 2020. Eckerd sophomore third baseman Mitch Donofrio is the National Hitter of the Week and Charleston (W.Va.) junior righty Logan Campbell is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Donofrio (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) finished the week with a .764/.777/1.240 slash line across Eckerd's four games last week. Donofrio went 13-for-17 at the plate with two doubles and four home runs, including a grand slam. He scored five times, drove in 11 runs, stole a pair of bases, and drew a walk as the Tritons went 2-2. He opened the week 2-for-4 against Palm Beach Atlantic University and 3-for-3 with a double, RBI, and a run scored versus Malone University. Donofrio then went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base against Rollins College, before ending the weekend 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base against PBA.

Campbell (Belding, Mich./Grand Rapids CC) tossed a one-hit, nine-inning shutout in a win over Shippensburg over the weekend. He struck out 18 batters and walked just one. After allowing a walk to the opening batter, Campbell set down 17-straight batters taking the no-hitter into the sixth inning. Shippensburg broke through with a two-out single, but could not get another runner. Campbell then finished the game retiring 10-straight, including five down on strikes.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting.
