Dear USBWA Member:
It's time to
renew
your membership in the U.S. Basketball Writers Association
for 2011-12! As in year's past, you can
join the association
or renew your dues online or
download the membership application.
Your support of the USBWA is vital as we strive to improve
the quality and quantity of services for journalists covering
college basketball.
The USBWA directory
alone is worth the cost of membership. The directory lists the
names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of every NCAA Division
I men's and women's basketball coach and SID in the country
and the writers who cover them.
But there are other
reasons for being a USBWA member.
• You'll be eligible to enter the
best writing contest
with winners receiving cash awards.
• You can vote on the
USBWA all-district and all-America
teams for player and coach honors.
• You'll receive the organization's
Tipoff newsletter
during the basketball season and seven issues of Basketball
Times.
• You'll have free-of-charge
access to rivals.com, the No. 1 online source for basketball
recruiting information.
Your membership dues will also help fund the USBWA's two
college scholarship programs, one to encourage high school and
college-age students to enter the sports journalism profession
and the other for off-spring of USBWA members who are of college
age and are either currently enrolled in a university or planning
to attend one after high school.
And you'll be supporting the USBWA's annual contribution
to the Kidney Foundation on behalf of legendary great Oscar
Robertson, who donated a kidney to his daughter several years
ago and for whom the USBWA's player of the year trophy is named
after.
Time is of the essence for rejoining. To ensure that you
are listed in the 2011-12 USBWA directory, please be sure to
renew you membership by Sept. 15 at the latest.
Thank you for supporting the USBWA through the years. Our
goal this year is to reach 1,000 members! So we encourage you
to rejoin and while you're at it, invite another sportswriter
or fellow SID to join as well.
Sincerely,
Lenox Rawlings, Winston-Salem Journal
