DALLAS (FWAA) – Utah free safety Morgan Scalley (Salt Lake
City, Utah) is this week's recipient of the Bronko Nagurski National
Defensive Player of the Week award for his performance in the Utes'
63-31 win over Colorado State this past Saturday.
The senior returned a fumble a school-record 88 yards for a touchdown
and picked off two passes and accumulated 40 yards in returns on those plays.
He had five tackles (two unassisted) and a pass breakup for the unbeaten
Utes.
For the fourth straight season, the All-America committee of the the
Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) will select the winner of
the weekly award on behalf of the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The winner has
been announced each Tuesday throughout the season.
Scalley, who has been added to the Watch List for the 2004 Bronko Nagurski
Trophy, is the final winner of the weekly award this season. The FWAA will
name the Nagurski Trophy semifinalists on Monday, Nov. 15 and the 2004 trophy
will be presented on Dec. 6 in Charlotte, N.C. by the FWAA and the Charlotte
Touchdown Club.
