DALLAS (FWAA) – With their 47-17 win over Florida State,
the Oklahoma Sooners (2-0) are the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
National Team of the Week for games of the weekend of Sept.
11.
Sophomore
quarterback Landry Jones completed 30-of-40 passes for 380 yards
and four touchdowns as the Sooners rolled to a 34-7 halftime advantage.
Junior Ryan Broyles caught 12 passes for 125 yards and a
touchdown.
The win extended the nation's longest home winning streak to
32 games.
"We knew who we were, we knew what we were capable of, and we
came out here and showed what we're capable of today," Jones said
after the game.
Other Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week nominees
for the weekend of Sept. 11 included:
• James Madison (1-0): The Dukes stunned No. 13
Virginia Tech, 21-16, in Blacksburg. Quarterback Drew Dudzik
ran for two second-half touchdowns as JMU handed the Hokies
their first loss to an FCS team since 1985.
• Kansas (1-0): The Jayhawks rebounded for a
season-opening loss to upset No. 15 Georgia Tech, 28-25, in
Lawrence to give head coach Turner Gill his first win at the
school. In his first career start, redshirt freshman
quarterback Jordan Webb tossed three touchdown passes to
spark the upset.
The Football Writers Association of America has named
a national team of the week since the 2002 season. This is the seventh
season that the award has been sponsored by the Tostitos Fiesta
Bowl.
Members of the FWAA All-America Committee decide the weekly honor.
Each remaining Monday during the 2010 college football regular season,
the FWAA will name the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the
Week.
Founded in 1971, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl has hosted six
games that have decided the college football national championship,
including three Bowl Championship Series title games. This season,
the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl will host the Tostitos BCS National
Championship Game on Jan. 10, 2011 at University of Phoenix
Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl will be played
on Jan. 1, 2011 in Glendale and the Insight Bowl will be played
on Dec. 28, 2010 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
