CHICAGO (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period ending Feb. 8.

Texas Tech junior first baseman Josh Brady has been named National Hitter of the Week, while Long Beach State junior RHP Jered Weaver was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Brady hit .571 during the three-game series against Campbell, going 8-for-14 with two doubles, hitting two home runs and driving in 11 runs in a three-game sweep of Campbell (18-1, 19-4, 9-4). In the second game of the series, Brady went 5-for-5 with four runs scored and six RBIs.

Weaver earned a victory in his first outing of the season, pitching 7.0 innings, giving up three hits, striking out six and not walking any, leading the 49ers to a victory over nationally-ranked California. He was on a pitch count, throwing 90 pitches and retired the first nine batters he faced on 31 pitches.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-American awards, publication and writing contests.
