CHICAGO (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period ending April 11.

Mississippi State's sophomore outfielder Brad Corley has been named National Hitter of the Week, while Tulane sophomore lefthander Brian Bogusevic was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Corley enjoyed a spectacular return to his home state last weekend, launching five home runs in three games to lead MSU to its first SEC series win of the year at Kentucky. Corley hit six home runs and drove in 11 runs during last week¹s five-game road run, compiling a .478 batting average and a 1.304 slugging percentage over the span. Six of his eight hits against Kentucky were extra-base hits. Corley has belted eight of his team-leading and career-high 10 home runs in the past seven games, including back-to-back two home run games in wins at Kentucky. His third home run of the weekend was a game-tying ninth inning solo blast that sparked State to a 10-8 comeback win at UK. HR No. 4 gave MSU a 1-0 lead in Sunday's series-clinching 12-3 finale. During the midweek, Corley drove in five runs to help MSU record a two-game sweep at No. 11 Southern Miss.

Bogusevic, an Oak Lawn, Ill., native, fired a four-hit shutout over a career-long 8 2/3 innings pitched at No. 2 LSU on April 6. He struck out four and did not walk a batter in posting his fifth consecutive victory. Bogusevic never allowed more than one base runner in any inning and pitched a trio of three-up, three-down frames as Tulane posted its first shutout over LSU since 1968.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-American awards, publication and writing contests.
