Wilkes' Mayerski, Gwynedd-Mercy's Thomas honored
NCBWA NAMES DIVISION III
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – Baseball was big in the Keystone State this past week as the ninth winners of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's NCAA Division III National Players of the Week for games of April 24-30 both hail from Pennsylvania: infielder Chris Mayerski of Wilkes University (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) for Hitter of the Week and right-hander Josh Thomas of Gwynedd-Mercy College (Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) for Pitcher of the Week.

Mayerski, a sophomore from Swoyersville, Pa., enjoyed an outstanding week in helping Wilkes post a 7-1 record and earning Freedom Conference Player of the Week honors. He hit .520 (13-25) during the eight-game stretch and had an impressive 1.320 slugging percentage, cracking five doubles and five home runs. He also drove in 20 runs, scored 13 times, and fashioned a .667 on base percentage. He went 4-for-4 vs. Penn State-Berks with two home runs and six RBI, and was 4-for-4 vs. Cazenovia with three doubles and four RBI. In the field, he made only one error in 43 chances while splitting time between first and third base.

Thomas, a junior from Severn, Md., was named the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after he tossed the second no-hitter in the school’s history, both this season, in a 16-0 win over Marywood University on Saturday. In a seven-inning complete game, the Griffins’ right-hander struck out six and allowed just two batters to reach base, one on a walk and one on an error. He joined junior Matt Daley in throwing a no-hitter for the Griffins this season.
