DALLAS (NCBWA) – A hot time at the plate in Arizona by
Garrett Lamborn of Wesleyan University (Conn.) and a no-hitter
by Tyler Seaman of Mississippi College have earned the two
the third NCAA Division III National Hitter of the Week and Pitcher
of the Week honors for 2009, covering the week of March 9-15,
as voted on by a panel of members from the National Collegiate Baseball
Writers Association.
Lamborn, a senior left fielder and designated hitter from Stevenson,
Md., led the Cardinals to a 4-2 week in on their road trip to Arizona
by collecting 15 hits in 24-bats, a .625 batting average, with five
doubles and three home runs. His slugging percentage was 1.208.
He scored nine runs and drove in 15. During a double-header sweep
of Swarthmore on March 12, he went 6-for-8 with three doubles, a
homer, four runs and eight RBI. He has an eight-game hitting streak
going from the beginning of the year.
Seaman, a junior right-hander from Pascagoula, Miss., and a transfer
from Jones County Junior College, threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts
in a 2-0 East Division road win over Louisiana College . Seaman
walked three batters over the seven-inning gem that allowed the
Choctaws to take the three-game series from the Wildcats. He was
named the American Southwest Conference East Division Pitcher of
the Week for his efforts.
