NCBWA NAMES PRO-LINE ATHLETIC
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending February 20. James Madison senior shortstop David Herbek was named National Hitter of the Week, while Texas junior right-hander Taylor Jungmann was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Herbek batted .538 (7-for-13) with five home runs, seven runs scored and 12 RBIs in James Madison's four-game sweep of Bucknell. He also had a double, drew four walks, was hit by a pitch and had three sacrifice flies. Herbek drove in multiple runs in all four games and scored at least one run and drove in one run in all four outings.

Out of the Big 12's six shutouts on opening weekend, Jungmann was the only pitcher to record a complete game. It marked the first career complete-game shutout for Jungmann and was the Longhorns' first shutout in a season-opener since 1985 when Dennis Cook blanked Texas Lutheran, 5-0, in a seven-inning affair. The right-handed All-American used 95 pitches to hold Maryland scoreless. Jungmann limited the Terrapins to five hits and one walk while striking out nine over nine innings in UT's 8-0 victory. Jungmann improved to 11-0 all-time in his 18 starts at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, and the Longhorns have yet to lose when he has started a game at home.
