NCBWA NAMES PRO-LINE ATHLETIC
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 7. Cal State Fullerton junior infielder Anthony Trajano was named National Hitter of the Week, while Florida International junior right-hander Kyle Fitzpatrick was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Trajano recorded a hit in all four of the Titans' games last week, extending his hitting streak to five games and had either scored the game-winning run or drove home the game-winner in each of the four wins. The Moreno Valley, Calif., native drove in a team-leading seven runs, while hitting .462. In the Titans' midweek contest versus Loyola Marymount, Trajano scored the eventual game-winning run in the second inning and also singled and drove in a run in the 5-1 win over the Lions.

He drove in a season-high four runs in Friday night's opener with USC and on Saturday he drove home two and wound up scoring the game-winning run after doubling in the Titans' four-run 5th inning. In the final game of the series, the Moreno Valley, Calif., native tripled and scored the winning run of the 2-1 win over USC to assist Cal State Fullerton in a sweep of the Trojans.

Fitzpatrick threw the fifth no-hitter in school history during a 4-0, nine-inning complete game shutout over Northeastern. He faced one batter over the minimum, allowed one walk and struck out five. During one stretch, the Tallahassee, Fla., native retired 16 consecutive batters. It was the first no-hitter at FIU since 1983.
