NCBWA NAMES DIVISION I
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 15. UCLA junior center fielder Beau Amaral was named National Hitter of the Week, while Davidson freshman left-hander Henry Sisson was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Amaral Sisson

Amaral went 9-for-18 (.500) with two triples, one double, six RBIs and seven runs scored in UCLA's four games against Top-15 ranked teams last week, posting a .778 slugging percentage. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native went 2-for-3 with one run in a 4-2 win against then-No. 12 Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday. He also went 4-for-6 with two triples, four RBI and four runs in UCLA's 15-3 win at then-No. 4 Arizona on Saturday.

Amaral extended his hitting streak to a career-high 18 games on Sunday, going 2-for-5 with one double, two RBI and one run to help the then-No. 17 Bruins seal the series victory. His streak is the longest by a Bruin since Chris Jensen's 18-game hitting streak in 2005.

Sisson threw the sixth no-hitter in Davidson history Friday night and the first since 2001 as the Wildcats shut out Wofford, 1-0. The milestone came in just Sisson's fifth career start as he upped his record to 2-1. The freshman from Chevy Chase, Md., allowed four base runners on three walks and an error and matched his career high of nine strikeouts.

The no-hitter was the first in the SoCon since College of Charleston combined to blank Western Carolina in 2004, and it was the first complete game no-hitter by a starter since The Citadel's T.A. Fulmer shut down East Tennessee State in 2002.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit the association's official Web site, www.ncbwa.com.
