INDIANAPOLIS (USBWA) – Due to the majority of
Division III schools canceling their men's and women's basketball
seasons in 2020-21, as well as the constant schedule changes due
to Covid-19 protocols, the USBWA Division III National Player of
the Week Committee has officially decided to forego presenting the
awards for the season.
“We had hoped to start the process again at some point. But,
with the uncertainties surrounding the virus and the fact that
the majority of schools have cancelled their seasons, we thought
it prudent to suspend the award process for 2020-21,” explained
Committee Chairman Jeff Bernstein of New York University. “We regret having
to make this decision, but look forward to resuming next season
when hopefully all of our teams and conferences will be competing.”
NCAA Division III has officially cancelled all of its winter
championship competitions, including the Men's and Women's Basketball
Championships.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has been selecting men's
and women's Division III National Players of the Week since the
beginning of the 2014-15 season and plans to resume the program
next season.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was
formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter
Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential
organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America
team since the 1956-57 season. For more information on the USBWA
