NCBWA NAMES NATIONAL
DIVISION III PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

CHICAGO (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has released its Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period ending April 6.

Cornell College senior catcher Ian Harden (Aurora, Colo.) was named the National Hitter of the Week, while Marietta College senior Matt DeSalvo (New Castle, Pa.) won the Pitcher of the Week honors. A panel of Division III NCBWA members reviews candidates from each Division III Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Harden hit .600 and had a 1.040 slugging percentage in six games during the week. He had 15 hits in 25 at-bats including five doubles and two homeruns. He drove in 13 runs, scored nine runs, stole three bases and played flawless defense in 54 chances (50 putouts, four assists). Harden, who had three three-hit games, also threw out four-of-seven would-be base stealers. Cornell went 6-0 with doubleheader sweeps of Grinnell College, Iowa Wesleyan College and Central College.

DeSalvo struck out 25 batters in 13 innings of work last week. DeSalvo allowed just three hits and did not allow an earned run average in the two wins.
