NCBWA NAMES NATIONAL
DIVISION III PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

CHICAGO (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has released its Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period ending May 4.

Jeff Flegler of Cortland was named the National Hitter of the Week, while Marc Cahill of Southern Maine and Joey Serfass of Eastern Connecticut State share the Pitcher of the Week honors. A panel of Division III NCBWA members reviews candidates from each Division III Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Flegler earns SUNYAC Player of the Week for the second time this season after batting .688 (11-of-16) with a double, triple and six RBI in four games, including three in SUNYAC baseball tournament games. He batted .750 in the SUNYAC Tournament going 3-of-4 with a walk and two RBI in a 9-1 win over Oneonta; was 4-of-4 with one RBI in an 11-0 win over Brockport and went 2-of-4 with a double and two RBI in a 5-2 win over Brockport in the title game.

Cahill and Serfass put on two terrific performances in opposite ends of a doubleheader that Southern Maine and Eastern Connecticut split. In the opener, Cahill fanned seven, scattered four hits and allowed but one walk, en route to a complete-game, 1-0 triumph. Serfass responded in the nightcap, by striking out five, yielding six hits and three walks to record a complete-game, 6-0 shutout. All 27 putouts came via strikeouts or in the infield; no Eastern Connecticut outfielder was called upon to record an out. They shared Little East Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
