DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball
Writers Association released its first NCAA Division II
National Players of the Week awards of the year for the
period ending Feb. 5. Cal Poly Pomona first baseman Chris
Miller is the National Hitter of the Week while Angelo State
senior righthander Rick Reyna is the National Pitcher of
the Week.
Chris Miller (Mission Viejo, Calif.) powered the Cal Poly
Pomona baseball team to a series sweep this past week against
Saint Martins. The Broncos ended up outscoring the Saints,
57-10 in the four-game series and Miller played a key role in
the CPP success, going 9-for-14 (.643) at the plate with a
team-high 10 RBI. He also scored eight runs and tallied two
doubles, a triple and a home run.
Rick Reyna (Mission, Texas) led Angelo State to a
season-opening win with a 12-strikeout performance where he went
six innings of scoreless baseball against Ouachita Baptist. The
senior allowed only three hits and held OBU batters to a .143
batting average. His 12 strikeouts tied an ASU single-game
record.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of
college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and
publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory,
newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player
of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting.
The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication
and writing contests.
