DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association released its weekly NCAA Division II National Players
of the Week awards for the period ending Feb. 26. Arkansas Tech's
third baseman Nate Wilder is the National Hitter of the Week
while St. Mary's junior right-hander Carl O'Neal is the National
Pitcher of the Week.
Nate Wilder (Lincoln, Neb.) batted .529 for Arkansas Tech as
they went 4-0 for the week. The infielder had nine hits in 17 at-bats.
Five of the nine hits left the yard as he drove in 12 runs and scored
nine himself. His slugging percentage was an outstanding 1.588 and
he also had an on-base percentage of .619. His best game was a two
home run, five RBI performance against Northeastern State.
Carl O'Neal (San Antonio, Texas) who once pitched nine no-hit
innings last year in an extra-innings affair, again flirted with
a no-no in a complete-game shutout against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
O'Neal gave up one hit and struck out 11 in the 2-0 victory.
