DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association released its weekly NCAA Division II National
Players of the Week awards for the period ending May 6th.
St. Edward's senior firstbaseman Adam Shank is
the National Hitter of the Week while Sonoma State senior righthander
Thomas Lee is the National Pitcher of the Week.
Adam Shank (Sugar Land, Texas) helped the No. 20 Hilltoppers
to a 2-1 weekly record. He pounded out a .692 batting average, which
included a 6-for-6 game in game two versus Texas A&M-International.
He also had a slugging percentage of .800 and drove in five runs
for the week, not to mention, a perfect fielding percentage in 27
chances. For the season, Shank has upped his average to .374. He
leads the Hilltoppers with 39 runs, 20 doubles and a .451 on-base
percentage.
Thomas Lee (Bakersfield, Calif.) allowed just two hits and struck
out eight en route to a shutout win over Cal State Monterey Bay.
The victory was the seventh of the season for Lee and it moved the
Seawolves to within one game of a CCAA Tournament berth, which they
would go on to clinch in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. Lee
was simply brilliant on Saturday, baffling Otter hitters the whole
way. He allowed only one walk and faced just one batter over the
minimum on his way to his first career complete game shutout.
