NCBWA NAMES DIVISION II
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on March 29. Lubbock Christian senior designated hitter Ryan Rogers is the National Hitter of the Week, while California Baptist junior pitcher Garett King is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Rogers (Littlefield, Texas/Littlefield HS), helped LCU to a 4-0, which included a 3-0 Heartland Conference sweep over St. Mary's with a team that offensively generated 53 runs in the four games on the week. The junior hit .706 (12-of-17) with two doubles, five runs and seven RBI. He had multi-hit performances in all four games, including a pair of four-hit contests. Rogers went 4-of-6 in at bats with the bases loaded and 6-for-8 in at bats with runners in scoring position. He produced an RBI in three of the four games, including a 4-RBI performance in LCU's final game of the StMU series. Rogers had a .750 on base percentage and a .824 slugging mark on the week.

King (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Nebraska) earned his second weekly conference honor with a historic performance against Academy of Art. He threw a nine-inning no-hitter with 15 strikeouts, setting CBU NCAA records with both milestones. He threw 92 pitches and faced the minimum 27 batters, with two runners reaching base on a hit-by-pitch and a dropped third strike. King never had a 3-2 count and faced only one 2-2 count in the game. He is 4-1 with a 2.68 ERA and is second in the PacWest with strikeouts.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
