DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on May 2. Mississippi College sophomore infielder Blaine Crim is the National Hitter of the Week, while West Liberty sophomore lefty Parker Dyson is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Crim (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul’s Episcopal HS) posted a .900 batting average as he went 9-for-10, including a streak of eight consecutive hits. Crim became the first Choctaw to a record a five-hit performance this season, including three doubles and a home run, as he led MC to a 10-3 win in the opening game of the series while totaling five RBIs. The win secured a berth in the GSC Tournament for the Choctaws. It is the first appearance in the GSC Tournament since 1996 and the first postseason berth since 2012. Crim also tallied an intentional walk in his first trip to the plate in the final game of the series. He recorded a .909 on-base percentage and a 1.600 slugging clip for the weekend, earning GSC Player of the Week honors.

Dyson (Tiltonsville, Ohio/Bridgeport) threw a no-hitter (7.0 IP) in a 3-0 win vs. Fairmont State on Saturday … 7 strikeouts, 3 walks … carried perfect game into 5th inning … faced 2 batters over minimum … only 2 balls left the infield … WLU’s first no-hitter in more than 3 decades … kept WLU tied for 2nd in MEC North … picked off one of his 3 walks … improved to 3-1 on the season.
