DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball
Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division
I polls for the 23rd year with its 2020 weekly surveys and after
the first weekend of the regular season, Texas Tech takes over at
No. 1, followed by Miami at No. 2 and Georgia at No. 3.
Texas Tech takes over the top spot after scoring 65 runs and
going 4-0 over opening weekend. Miami jumps up to the top three
from No. 5 after a 3-0 weekend vs. Rutgers. Georgia moves up one
spot to round out the top three after a weekend sweep of Richmond.
Preseason No. 1 Vanderbilt falls to fourth after a 1-2 record
over opening weekend at the MLB4 Collegiate Baseball Tournament
in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Michigan jumps into the top 10 after a 3-1 record over the weekend,
moving up two spots after wins over then-No. 1 Vanderbilt, then-No.
7 Arizona State and Cal Poly.
Overall, the top 10 consists of six SEC schools, two ACC programs,
one from the Big 12 and one from the Big Ten.
The biggest risers this week include Ole Miss, who jumped up
five spots from 25 to 20 and Cal State Fullerton who went from receiving
votes to ranking No. 28th.
Three new D1 programs in 2020 include the University of Akron,
Boise State and Merrimack. Akron, back after a five-year absence,
went 0-2 on the weekend, while Merrimack went 2-2. Boise State was
idle last week.

college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and
publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory,
newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Trophy,
Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA
also sponsors Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the
Year, and publication and writing contests.
