NCBWA NAMES NATIONAL
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

CHICAGO (NBCWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period ending March 9.

Prettyman
Garner

Cal State Fullerton sophomore designated hitter Ronnie Prettyman was named the National Hitter of the Week, while Central Michigan senior RHP Jeff Garner won the Pitcher of the Week honors. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Prettyman, a sophomore from Los Alamitos, Calif., batted .818 (9-for-11) for the week and had hits in eight consecutive at-bats while reaching base in 10 consecutive appearances. Prettyman drove in five runs, scored five and had four doubles, including three in Cal State Fullerton's s 6-1 win over Minnesota in game two of the series.

In his first start of the 2003 season, Garner struck out a career-high 14 batters over seven innings in the Chippewas 9-2 win over Michigan State in Jacksonville, Fla. on March 4. He allowed only two hits and one earned run in the victory.
