CHICAGO (NBCWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period ending March 16.

George Washington sophomore rightfielder Anthony Raglani was named the National Hitter of the Week, while Arkansas senior RHP Jarrett Gardner won the Pitcher of the Week honors. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Raglani reached base in 12 of his 16 plate appearances and pounded six extra-base hits to lead George Washington to a 5-0 record on the week. He totaled eight runs scored and four RBI, while reaching base via walk five times. Raglani had a pair of multi-hit games and seven hits in 11 official at-bats (.636) for the week, along with two steals. He had five doubles and launched his first home run of the season. Raglani leads the Colonials in runs (21) and slugging percentage (.625).

Gardner recorded a win and a save against a pair of Top 25 teams last week. He earned his first save of the season and the fourth of his career against No. 21 Kansas on March 11. With the tying run on second (reached on error), he retired the next three batters, including two strikeouts, to preserve 2-1 victory vs. Jayhawks. Gardner then pitched a complete game to earn a win against No. 6 South Carolina in series finale on March 16. The win was his third of season and gave Arkansas the series win over Gamecocks in Columbia. He held South Carolina to four hits and did not allow an earned run. He retired six of first seven Gamecock hitters and 11 straight at one point.
