NCBWA NAMES PRO-LINE ATHLETIC
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending February 21.

MacPhee Bywater
Pro-Line Athletic: The Choice of Champions.

Arizona State sophomore second baseman Zack MacPhee was named National Hitter of the Week, while Pepperdine junior left-hander Matt Bywater was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Bywater was recognized for his complete game shutout at No. 4 Cal State Fullerton last Saturday night. The Thousand Oaks, Calif. native scattered four hits and struck out 10 Titans in the Waves' 6-0 victory, marking his fourth career double-digit strikeout game. Twice he left runners stranded at third base following the seventh-inning stretch, and earlier, he induced two double plays to escape jams in the second and fourth innings. His complete game victory was the first posted by a Wave since March 7, 2008 when Nathan Newman went the distance in a 7-1 win vs. Columbia.

MacPhee, a Phoenix, Ariz. native, was an offensive machine during the opening weekend for the Sun Devils, helping ASU to a three-game sweep of Northern Illinois. MacPhee went 8-for-11 for a .727 batting average and a 1.818 slugging percentage. For the weekend, he accumulated 20 total bases, thanks in part to his four triples. MacPhee scored seven times and drove in eight runs. He also drew three walks and stole two bases in the series.
