Merchant Marin's Hatmann, SUNY-Maritime's Sarna honored

NCBWA NAMES DIVISION III
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – Merchant Marine's Warren Hartmann and SUNY-Maritime's Nick Sarna picked up the third NCAA Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors for 2014 as voted on by a panel of D-III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Hartmann, a senior infielder from Wyckoff, N.J., exploded during the Mariners' perfect 4-0 week, going 10-for-13 (.769) at the plate and posting a slugging percentage of 1.769. The Landmark Conference's Hitter of the Week had at least one hit and one RBI in each game and totaled 10 RBI over the four-game stretch. Hartmann recorded seven extra base hits, including two triples and two homeruns. He scored nine runs and stole four bases to go along with a .765 on-base percentage.

Sarna, a senior hurler from Massapequa, N.Y., made program history. He tossed the first perfect game in the modern history of the Maritime program on Mar. 11 in the Privateers' 13-0 win over Yeshiva. He registered five strikeouts while lowering his earned run average to 1.38 on the year. Sarna was also the Skyline Conference's Pitcher of the Week.

Honorable Mention Hitters: Tyler Craig (Simpson) - hit .700 (7-for-10) with a 1.500 slugging percentage, three doubles, a triple, a home run, six runs scored and seven RBIs; Andrew Gronski (Case Western Reserve) - batted .567 (17-of-30) with two HRs, 11 RBI, two triples and nine runs scored; Casey Grimes (Rowan) - hit .727 (8-for-11) with three doubles, six RBI, one home run and four runs scored.

Honorable Mention Pitcher: Bryce McDonald-Wilson (SUNY-Canton) - eight-inning complete game no-hitter. Struck out 10 batters.

Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting.
