NCBWA NAMES DIVISION II
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on April 19. Ashland (Ohio) sophomore third baseman J.P. Sorma is the National Hitter of the Week, while Findlay (Ohio) senior pitcher Mason Mayberry is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Sorma (Seven Hills, Ohio) in the midst of a breakout season, had a breakout week in six games at home against Lake Erie and at Hillsdale. He was 15-for-25 (.600) five home runs, five doubles, 14 RBIs and 12 runs scored. Sorma is tied for second in the GLIAC in home runs with nine, is fourth in slugging percentage at .670 and is tied for ninth in RBIs with 32.

Mayberry (Bowling Green, Ohio) had arguably the best week of his career this past week, turning in a couple of double-digit strikeout games including his first collegiate no-hitter. First, coming off 18 days since his previous start, Mayberry turned in a no-hitter on Tuesday to give the Oilers a win over SVSU. In that game, Mason struck out 12, tying a career-high, and allowed just four base runners, two walks and two errors. It was the second no-hitter by an Oilers' pitcher this season after not recording a no-no in any of the previous 19 seasons. His next start would come on five-days rest and again, he delivered. Mayberry took a no-decision on the mound despite pitching seven innings, allowing no earned runs, just four hits, and striking out 10 batters.
